Hammoud Joins Lebanon U19 Team For Qualifiers

VICTORIA, B.C. - Highlanders FC are pleased to announce that Mahdi Hammoud will join the Lebanon U19 Team as they participate in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U19 Championship 2020 Qualifiers which will be held in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. The Highlanders’ Second Team player will be with the team until October 8th, 2019.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for Mahdi to gain experience with a national team program,” stated Highlanders head coach Thomas Niendorf. “Mahdi has had a great start to the season in the VISL and continues to work on and improve his skills on and off the field. He’s a bright young player and this experience will further his development.”

Hammoud is currently in the Highlanders Residency program that plays in the Vancouver Island Soccer League (VISL) in Division Two. While playing for the Thomas Niendorf coached side, Hammoud has posted six goals in just two games on the season.

The AFC U19 Championship has been held since 1959 and is held every two years. The Lebanese U19 Team is looking to qualify for the tournament for the just the second time in their history as they made to the group stage in 2008.
