The 18-year-old joins Joshua Walter and Goteh Ntignee as the third player signed from Niendorf’s Pacific Elite Soccer Institute. Before his time at PESI, the midfielder spent time with the Vancouver Island Wave of the BC Soccer Premier League. His work rate and competitiveness in the middle of the field didn’t go unnoticed by his coaching staff.

“Sean is an outstanding young player. He has very good technical abilities and a high soccer intelligence,” stated Highlanders assistant coach Vikram Virk. “He is strong physically, a tenacious worker and he is a great competitor. We are very happy with the way he has developed and performed over the league season and are very happy to have him continue and be apart of the Highlanders this summer.”

Young spent his 2018 season with the Highlanders Reserve squad in the Pacific Coast Soccer League. He finished the season with a goal and helped lead the team to a 6-4-2 record, good enough for second in their division. The USL League Two campaign will be the second league season for Young in 2019 as he is coming off a Jackson Cup run in the Vancouver Island Soccer League with the Thomas Niendorf-coached Westcastle United. His steady play at midfield helped the squad finish second in Division 1 and capture the 2019 Jackson Cup. Having grown through the ranks of the Highlanders’ program, Young is relishing the opportunity to continue his growth as a player.

“I’m really excited for the upcoming season and looking forward to it,” added Young. “It’s a great opportunity for my development in a very competitive league. It will be great to be coached by Thomas and Vik, having been coached by them at PSI Academy. This has always been a goal of mine, so I’m just excited for the opportunity.”

The Highlanders start their season at home against Lane United on May 10th, with a 7:00 p.m. kickoff at Centennial Stadium. Don’t miss out, get your season tickets for our upcoming USL League Two campaign today. For more information, visit www.highlandersfc.ca/tickets
