Highlanders continue home field dominance with 3-0 win over Altitude FC
The Victoria Highlanders were yet to concede a goal at home going into today’s match against Altitude FC, and Steve Simonson’s team had no intentions of allowing that to change this evening.
The Highlanders were quick off the whistle, creating a wonderful goal scoring opportunity in the opening minutes of the match. Highlanders forward Isaac Koch found himself one on one with the Altitude FC keeper who was up to the challenge, making a fantastic save on Koch. Just moments later the visors found themselves with a scoring opportunity of their own, however they too were unable to convert.
The next twenty minutes saw neither side really take control… but that was about to change. In the 26th minute Highlanders forward Isaac Koch received a pass in the final third and delivered a beautiful cross just outside the 6-yard box, finding the head of teammate Michael Henman who made no mistake in heading the ball home. This goal seemed to spark the home team and the Highlanders began to take control of the match.
Despite a handful of chances, the score line remained 1-0 going into the half.
The second half kicked off, and it would appear Head Coach Steve Simonson said exactly what he needed to during the break, as the Highlanders came out flying in the second half! Dominating possession and looking comfortable in the back, the Highlanders appeared confident and in control of the match. However, despite having the lead, the Highlanders were desperate to get that crucial second goal of the match.
That goal would come in the 77th minute off the boot of Highlanders veteran, Mackenzie Cole, when teammate Gregor Smith made a wonderful run down the line and found Cole with a low, driven ball across the face of goal.
The Highlanders would score a third and final goal in the 88th minute when midfielder, Koby Greaves, delivered a dangerous ball towards goal off a free kick that deceived everyone, including the Altitude FC goalkeeper, and bounced into the side netting.
With the victory, the Highlanders move to 2-1-1 on the season and sit third in the League 1 BC standings.
