Highlanders Sign Fletcher and Davidson
VICTORIA, B.C. – Victoria Highlanders FC are pleased to announce the signings of Sam Fletcher and Daniel Davidson, Pending League and Federation Approval. The midfielder and striker, respectively, are the latest additions to join Thomas Niendorf’s 2019 USL League Two squad.
Victoria native Sam Fletcher joins the Highlanders after a successful university season with the UBC Thunderbirds, where he played a total of 616 minutes, started six matches, and chipped in with three assists. The 19-year-old midfielder also helped the Thunderbirds capture the 2019 Canada West and Keg Cup titles. Fletcher played with the Pacific Coast Soccer League Highlanders’ reserves side before moving across to play for UBC for the past two seasons.
“Sam is part of our commitment to recognize players who have performed well in the University level. Sam is a solid, reliable disciplined player in the midfield and has performed there for UBC,” added Niendorf. “As a local Victoria player, our group is designed for players in the Highlanders academy and the local community and we want to promote and showcase these players in USL League Two.”
23-year-old Daniel Davidson signs after a spell with Abbotsford United where he made history for the club, becoming the squad’s first ever Fraser Valley Soccer League Golden Boot recipient where he bagged 16 goals and found himself as a nominee for the league's MVP award. Before moving to Abbotsford United, the striker played for the University of Fraser Valley Cascades, where he scored seven goals and provided three assists in his 38 appearances for the university. He also comes with USL League Two experience having played for the Kitsap Pumas and TSS Rovers.
“Daniel has played at the USL League Two before with TSS Rovers, so he has experience at this level,” stated Niendorf. “We are looking forward to his experience and proven goal scoring abilities and he can make a difference for us up front. He can also drop into the pocket between the lines and will be important to our attacking style of play we want to have this season.”
