Waters joins the squad following an impressive rookie season with the University of Cape Breton(UCB). The native of Blackpool, England started all eleven games for UCB, notching eight goals and four assists. Taking part in the Atlantic University Sport(AUS) division, Waters was named 2017 AUS rookie of the year.

“I'm looking forward to just getting on the pitch and playing with the lads, aiming to do as well as we can this summer in the league,” stated Waters. “After speaking to Thomas (Niendorf) and him telling me the plans for this summer, Victoria was where I was most looking forward to playing.”

Joining Waters will be fellow UCB player and returning Highlanders defender Stuart Heath. As many Highlanders fans will recall Heath scored the winner last season in the derby match with TSS Rovers to win the Juan De Fuca Cup.

“I'm looking forward to getting back to Victoria, I was here last season and fell in love with the place. The reason I came back though is mainly because I know we're better than results showed last season and I hope myself and the lads can prove that this season.”

Heath added, “I think a new coach and owners can mean a lot to Victoria. It shows the ambitions of the new owners to want to progress the club forward and then hopefully progress football within the community and city as well.”

The Highlanders start their season on the road against the Calgary Foothills May 11, with their home opener against the Portland Timbers at Centennial Stadium on May 20. Fans can join the Highlanders players, coaches, owners and fans at the Kick Off Before Kick Off party on Thursday, April 26 at Distrikt Nightclub. Tickets are only $105 and include a season ticket, Highlanders t-shirt, 2 beverage tickets and appies, as well as entry into a door prize. Or you can purchase a $30 ticket at the door.
