Victoria Highlanders face top two in the division on double header weekend

A massive weekend ahead for the Victoria Highlanders, as they face off against the top 2 team in the division in Varsity FC and TSS Rovers. The Highlanders will need to give it everything they got this weekend, with 6 crucial points up for grabs in the playoff race! If that wasn’t enough motivation, Highlanders will also play the second leg of the Juan De Fuca Plate on Sunday in their match up versus TSS, needing to win by 2 goals or more in order to lift the plate!

Quotes: Highlander’s Gregor Smith

On the importance of team depth in this double header weekend versus two of the top teams in the league…

“Team depth has always been important for keeping a high standard in training but going into a double header weekend against two of the top teams it’s now crucial that we use our depth throughout the weekend.  We’re very fortunate to have a strong group of players so I’m really to see our depth come into play this weekend.”

On how the group has prepared for the weekend…

“Just getting in the right mindset, we know it’s going to be a hard weekend but instead of fearing that I think we’re excited and are embracing the challenge. From a tactical side we now know how TSS Rovers and Varsity play so we’ve been on the pitch preparing for how we expect them to come at us.”

On the importance of getting a result in both games this weekend…

“We’ve definitely put ourselves in a tough spot where now every game is a must win game if we want to keep our top two hopes alive. That being said we need this to be a six point weekend and anything less than that could end our chances of making the championship game.”
