Women’s Soccer: Altitude FC top Highlanders 3-2 at Centennial
On a windy afternoon at Centennial Stadium, it was Altitude FC topping the Victoria Highlanders 3-2 in League 1 BC action on Sunday, June 12th, 2022.
The Highlanders were off to a quick start, scoring the opening goal in the 9th off the boot of Highlanders midfielder, Megan Faulkner.
The lead wouldn’t last long, as Altitude FC drew level ten minutes later, capitalizing on a Highlanders giveaway in the back.
Despite the Highlanders being the better side for much of the first half, it would be Altitude who would take the lead right before half time when Altitude forward, Maya Morrell, scored a wonder goal from outside the 18-yard box. Altitude would go into the half up 2-1 on the home team.
Still buzzing from the goal before half, Altitude came out flying and converted their first chance of the second half, scoring in the 47th minute. However, their celebrations were short lived as the Highlanders were quick to respond. In the 50th minute, Highlanders veteran Katie Krautner scored a beauty, bringing the Highlanders back within one of Altitude FC.
Highlanders would continue to push to draw level, creating multiple chances and coming close on a handful of occasions. But, despite their best efforts, Altitude would see out the 3-2 lead and take all three points on the road against the Highlanders.
