Women’s Soccer: Unity FC edge Highlanders 2-1 at Chase Office Field

On a rainy afternoon, it was Unity FC topping the Victoria Highlanders 2-1 in League 1 BC action on Sunday, June 19th, 2022.

The first half was a bit of a chess match, as neither team really looked to dominate possession or take control. Both teams had a couple of good chances and saw their goalkeepers make some good saves to keep the match level. This would be the trend for the entirety of the first 45 minutes as the teams went into their locker rooms tied 0-0 at the half.

The second half showed early that it would not follow the same trend as the first, when Unity attacker, Tilly James, put one past the Highlanders keeper, giving Unity the lead. Unity would go on to double that lead 15 minutes later when Makenna Dieterich found herself in front of goal and made no mistake in slotting it home.

The second goal would light a spark in the Highlanders, as they began to push forward in search of any hope to get something from the match. That hope would come in the 70th minute off a Unity own goal.

With the deficit cut in half, the Highlanders continued to push to find an equalizer, but the home side did well to hold off the Highlanders attack and earn themselves 3 points from the match.
