At what age did you start playing soccer?

I was 5 years old.

How did you get started? How were you introduced to soccer?

My dad played. But I come from a very active family – my mom played on Canada’s netball team a long time ago – so it’s in my genes! Plus my family is Caribbean so soccer is a big thing for our community.

Where did you first start playing?

First ever club was Ottawa St. Anthony Soccer Club, played there for a few years. Then I played for the Gloucester Hornets for pretty much my whole youth.

Did you always play the same position?

I played centre-mid, I played holding midfield, I played striker, I played wing… so pretty versatile!

What’s your best memory from your grassroots days as a soccer player?

I don’t know… probably winning some tournaments. Not too specific, but definitely winning a couple tournaments!

What’s was your most memorable moment in soccer (so far)?

It was signing my first pro contract in Sweden.

Who is your role model in the soccer world, a player you look up to?

Ronaldinho

What advice would you give young soccer players?

Be willing to learn. It’s a team game, first and foremost, so you have to work as hard as you can, help your teammates. Be humble and stay focused and open-minded.

Jamar is now giving back to the Ottawa grassroots soccer community through his involvement with the FURY FIT Development Program. The program provides boys and girls aged 9-17 with supplemental skills training designed and delivered by Fury FC players and professional coaching staff.
