Mariel Solsberg committed to 2022 Women´s roster

Victoria, B.C. - Victoria Highlanders FC are proud to announce Mariel Solsberg as the first committed player to the 2022 women's roster. Without a doubt, Mariel will be one of the leaders to help the Highlanders women achieve the goals set for this season.

"I'm looking forward to a chance to play! I’m certain that most players are saying similar things but after soccer being shut down due to the pandemic, it’s amazing that a platform for competitive level soccer for women, outside of the university, has been re-established on the island", stated Solsberg. "My personal goals are to learn and grow as a player. I am excited to step on the pitch with many women whom I haven’t had a chance to play within what feels like ages, and develop together as individuals and as a team".

Solsberg has a wealth of experience to her name. Domestically, she has played for the UVic Vikes, West Vancouver FC, and Gorge FC, among others. Internationally, Solsberg lived in Denmark, where she had the opportunity to play for two teams: Fortuna Hjorring and Sonderjyske.

"The combination of her playing experience and coaching experience allows her to understand what we are trying to achieve here," stated Assistant Coach Wes Barrett. "She's an ambassador for the female side of the game from a role model standpoint and will be a leader on the field with her extensive experience from her playing career."

It will be a pleasure to see Mariel on the field as part of the Victoria Highlanders in the inaugural League 1 BC season. Welcome, Mariel!
